Webmailservices like Hotmail aregreat to check your email account online: but you might want to access yourinbox from a desktopsoftware like MozillaThunderbird or Microsoft Outlook. In fact, a mail client can be handier andgenerally providesmore tools for your account management.
Luckilyit’s very easy to set upHotmail’s SMTP server for a mail client or an email app to send yourmessages. You’ll just need to open the configuration panel in your application
andenter the Windows Live / Hotmail SMTP settings:
- Hotmail SMTP server address: smtp.live.com

Thenyou can choose your security and authentication specifics: for furtherinformation please check our article about SMTPconfiguration. (And of course you can use also Hotmail’s POPdetails to receive emails).
Unfortunately,Hotmail’s own SMTP putsa limit on outcoming emails, to deter spammers from taking advantage ofit, and make their shared IPs work better without email queues: so you can senda maximum of 300 messages per day and up to 100 recipients per message.
It’sthus pretty clear that if you’re putting up an emailmarketing campaign oryou need to mail out the same newsletter to a big number users, you must rely ona totally different SMTP client.
